Section 1: “Becoming a Disciple”                   Session 8: “Why Join A Church?”

Our PURPOSE.

Colossians 3:15-16 Let the peace of Christ rule in our hearts, be thankful, and let the message of

Christ dwell among us richly.

Ephesians 3:10 Make God’s wisdom known to rulers and authorities in heavenly realms!

The Ordained PROCESS.

Colossians 3:1-14, 16-17 Set our hearts and minds on things above… put to death the earthly

nature and put on the new self… clothe ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility,

gentleness and patience (relationships!)… bear with each other and forgive as forgiven… put

on love… teach and admonish one another… do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus!

I Corinthians 12:12-27 All baptized to form one body made up of many diverse parts with no

division and equal concern for each other… suffer with each other… rejoice with each

other… each one of us is a part!

Colossians 1:24-25 Selflessly serve the Church for the sake of the Gospel.

Proverbs 27:17 Sharpen each other “as iron sharpens iron.”

Hebrews 13:17 Allow God to work in you through the structure of the Church. Trust God’s

oversight of His overseers.

Hebrews 10:24-25 Meet regularly and encourage one another… more and more!

Matthew 18:17 Redemptive accountability!

Acts 20:28 Shepherding and oversight in stewardship of Christ’s blood-purchased people!

I Corinthians 5:12 Mutual accountability & correction

I Corinthians 14:4, 12 & 26 Use gifts to edify the church, do ALL so that church may be built up!

His PROVISION.

I Corinthians 12:4-11, 12:28-31 Gifts to each one from the Spirit of God for the common good!

Matthew 16:18 Christ will build His Church that Hades itself will not overcome!

Ephesians 5:25-27 Christ gave Himself up for the Church, to cleanse it and make it holy and

blameless, a radiant church without stain or wrinkle or blemish!

Colossians 1:18 Our resurrected “Head” has supremacy in everything!

“Why should I join a local church?
Am I not already a member of his Body as a believer?”
Shallow connectivity with Christ’s Body allows shallow commitment to Christ. The local fellowship is where mutual edification, service through gifts, and accountability are able to nurture depth and show
unity in the “message” of our lives! It is the PROCESS He ordained through which to PROVIDE
the environment for His PURPOSE to be fulfilled!
